edX Quality Education for Everyone, Everywhere

Education and Training Daily

Vol. 16, No. 125

This article caught my attention because of the sheer volume of students who enrolled in Microsoft courses on the edX MOOC platform. edX was founded by Harvard University and MIT in 2012. It offers courses from the world’s best universities and institutions. Microsoft was their first corporate member to offer courses. The edX platform is open-source and “educators and technologists can build learning tools and contribute new features.” I think it is amazing that so much education is helping people learn, who might not have been able to afford the training elsewhere. On the edX blog, I saw an article about a 59 year old lawyer in Vancouver who has earned 100 edX certificates, which he says, “helped him not only develop professionally as a lawyer, but also fulfilled his desire for lifelong learning.” One statistic I would be interested in, is how many of the 1M students are completing the Microsoft courses.
